League of Women Voters Questions

1.  How would you keep citizens informed about pending City Council decisions?  What is reasonable advance notice of opportunities for citizen input?

Schedule informational workshops (no decisions) about major policy issues to be decided by the Council.  The workshops  would be available on zoom for all residents. Send workshop notice to the neighborhood association, homeowners association, and to any resident requesting email notification of meetings.  The notice  would include a general description of the agenda item and be sent 30 days before the workshop, including a note about the detailed agenda availability seven days before the meeting informational workshop  .

2.  What are the City’s most urgent needs, and how would you address them?

A.  Good communication with residents is essential.  See above.

B.  Charter Review. The Council should appoint a Review Committee immediately.  Issues to be reviewed should include an elected Mayor, wards for Council members, regularly scheduled review of the Comprehensive Plan for the City, compensation for the Mayor and Councilors, among others.  The Review should be completed within two years, and submitted to the voters.  .

C.  Update development code to include a Tree Code, and protection  for native plants and animals.

D.  Development of a closer relationship with and outreach to neighboring cities, the County, and the State legislature to work on issues affecting King City, including the League of Oregon Cities, the Metro Policy Advisory Committee (MPAC), and the Joint Policy Advisory Committee (regional transportation)  (JPAC).

3.  How should your city regulate interaction with homeless campers?

Develop relationships with service providers for drug treatment, mental health programs,  housing assistance, etc. Make sure the above service referrals are readily available to the homeless, when contact occurs.  Only those who refuse services should be subject to any sanctions imposed by the City.
